The holidays are one of the busiest travel times of the year. Recently, we’ve posted information on how social media and reviews affect travel plans – but think of how much smart phone technology has changed the travel business. For one thing, it would make half of one of the best holiday movies – “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” irrelevant. A new study has been released that details how travelers use their smart phones while on the road.
• Nearly three quarters looked for directions or operating hours to
• Almost 7 in 10 checked into a flight or confirmed a reservation
• 65% found a business location
• 64% logged into an account
• Over 60% searched for flight times, hotels or car rentals
• Nearly 6 in 10 found a phone number or email address
What Does This Mean To You?
Many consumers used their smart phones while on vacation for things that were not generally travel related. Large percentages searched for a business’s contact information and how to find it. Because travelers are more likely to be unfamiliar with the area they are in, they are probably more dependent on mobile devices than local consumers. There are several things you can do to ensure your mobile presence contributes to increased traffic and sales.
Is your contact information easily identifiable?
Is it up to date?
Do you offer directions or mapping functions?
Do users have the ability to click to call?
These are just a few things that will make your mobile site tool prospective customers will use. For more information developing revenue with mobile technology, please contact your Orlando Sentinel Media Group representative or:
