Halloween is just around the corner and in recent years it’s become one of the most anticipated holidays. Even though there’s no usually a day off attached to Halloween, many consumers spend months preparing for it. New information shows us how much consumers are spending this Halloween and what they will be spending it on.
• On average, consumers celebrating Halloween will spend nearly $80 per household – an increase of over 10%
from last year
• A total of $1.1 billion will be spent on children’s costumers, up from $1 billion last year. Adult costume spending will also increase this year – from $1.2 billion last year to $1.4 billion in 2012
• This year, there will be more 4-legged trick or treaters. Spending on pet costumes is predicted to hit $370 million. That’s an increase of 20% – so you may want to have some Scooby-snacks on hand in addition to candy bars
• Over half of consumers plan on decorating their homes, 45% plan on dressing in costume, over 35% plan on throwing or attending a party, one-third will be taking their children trick or treating and 15% will be dressing their pets up for Halloween
What Does This Mean To You?
Halloween offers your business a cauldron full of ways to increase sales and create traffic to your business. From convenience and grocery stores, to restaurants, to hardware and home improvement businesses – October 31st is a great lead-in to the winter holiday season.
There are many incidentals that people need for Halloween that can increase shopping. Creating a list of some of these things and have them posted throughout your location. Items like glow sticks, flashlights and batteries are often forgotten about till the last minute. With so many people decorating outside, it’s a good idea to remind them about extension cords external lighting. Also suggest to consumers that your logo’d bag makes a great trick or treat carrier.
Since Halloween is in the middle of the week, many people will be rushing home from work to get things set up and ready for costumed kids. If you are a restaurant, remind diners about your carry out or delivery options – with so many people attending or hosting parties, promoting your catering capabilities could also scare up some business.
